Kudos to Hong Kong for coming top of the table in the Asia Pacific Carriers’ Coalition (APCC) survey of most economical local broadband access. The survey defines ‘broadband’ as anything over 1.5 Mbps. While Hong Kong ranked “among the lowest priced” in all categories, it ranked cheapest overall in the 10 Mbps and 1 Gbps categories. A spokesperson for HK’s Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) said there were 12 wireline and 29 cable-based providers operating, and the #1 ranking underpins Hong Kong’s status as a regional hub for finance and trading, as well as the preferred regoinal HQ location for multinational companies.
The survey ranked broadband services in Australia, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
